In addition to exemplary diagnostic and treatment services, our practice offers patients on-site laboratory services, X-ray, physical therapy, diabetic education and weight management, as well as allergy testing and treatment. As a part of Summit Medical Group, patients have access to nearby imaging centers where more complex diagnostic tests such as MRI and CT scans are done, which enables expedited reports back to your primary care physician. In addition, Summit Sleep Services diagnoses and treats sleep disorders.

Our physicians have implemented full electronic medical record technology, which allows your IMA physician to securely log in to your medical record from the office, home or hospital. This allows your physician instant and secure access the most current information about your health in order to better assessments and diagnoses.

Below is more detailed information about specific services:

Allergy Testing and Treatment

Our practice performs onsite allergy testing and immunotherapy. Speak to your IMA physician about these services

Ancillary Services

Many testing procedures are done in our offices, such as X-rays, EKGs, holter monitors, spirometry. In addition, all specimens needed for lab tests are collected in house. As a part of Summit Medical Group, IMA patients have access to several ancillary service centers that provide more complex diagnostic services such as MRI and CT scans, nuclear medicine, mammography, ultrasound, bone density studies and ambulatory cardiology. The three centers (Fountain City, Bearden and Cedar Bluff) are accredited by local and national agencies and staffed by highly trained specialists. Because they are affiliated with Summit, the results of diagnostic testing are made quickly available to your IMA physician by adding them to your secure Electronic Medical Record.

Diabetic Education and Weight Management

Our practice is one of only two American Diabetes Association accredited education centers in Knoxville. IMA employs Katharine Geoghagan, Registered Dietician, licensed nutritionist/dietitian and certified diabetes educator. In addition to personal diabetic counseling and education, we also provide patients with personal weight loss management programs. If you are interested in these services, please ask your physician or a staff member.

Express Clinics

Summit operates four express clinics to treat patients when our office is closed at night, on weekends and holidays. IMA strives to ensure quick access for patients to their physician or one of our nurse practitioners and always has a physician on call for our patients. However, there are times when acute minor injuries or illnesses need immediate attention. For these times, the Express Clinics offer care in the evenings, on Saturdays and Sundays and holidays. There are four locations, one in Fountain City, one in Powell, one in the Bearden area of West Knoxville and one in Farragut. Click here for more information on the Express Clinics. A record of your treatment at an Express Clinic is quickly sent to your IMA physician.

Hospital Services

Our physicians no longer round at the hospital.  We have decided to focus on expanding and enhancing our outpatient practice. Patients who need to be admitted to the hospital  will be cared for by hospitalist physicians.  The hospitalist group is comprised of Internal Medicine, Pulmonary, and Critical Care physicians dedicated to caring for hospitalized patients. They are committed to providing the same quality care you are accustomed to in our office, and your physician will have access to your medical records regarding your hospitalization.

Insurance and Billing

Our physicians participate in many commercial insurance plans, as well as traditional Medicare and some Medicare Advantage plans. To confirm that we participate in your health insurance plan, you can either check with the insurer or refer to Summit’s insurance plan page.

Laboratory

Our onsite lab allows us to draw samples needed for a wide array of routine and complex tests. Some tests are completed in house, while more complex tests are processed at Summit’s Central Laboratory. The laboratory is under the supervision of a certified laboratory professional and undergoes regular CLIA inspections. This laboratory is one of the busiest in the region, performing more than 5 million tests each year. Results are usually available to your physician within 24 hours and are automatically entered into your secure Electronic Health Record.

Medicare and Wellness Visit Information

If you are a Medicare beneficiary, you are entitled to an Annual Wellness Visit. This visit is not subject to deductibles or co-pays.

Important note: The Annual Wellness Visit is not an “annual physical,” and is not intended to be a visit for assessing a specific medical condition. If you would like to receive a physical or to have a specific condition assessed, you may need to schedule a separate appointment.

The Medicare Wellness Visit is an assessment of:

  • Your medical history
  • Your functional ability
  • Preventative care
  • Risk factors

Before your Annual Wellness Visit:

Please select this link to print out and complete an important questionnaire that will provide important information to your physician. This form will be reviewed with you as part of your appointment.

Questions: Please call our office with any questions, or to schedule your appointment: (865) 546-9751.

Physical Therapy

Physical therapy is an integral part of recovering fully from many injuries, surgeries or illnesses. For the convenience of our patients we offer physical therapy at our practice. This also allows for greater communication with your physician. Our staff members can assist you in scheduling this therapy when it is needed.

Sleep Services

Because of its size, Summit is able to operate a fully-accredited, 10-bed sleep center where diagnostic sleep studies and consultations are performed. The testing environment is “home like” with individual bedrooms to make patients more comfortable. If you suspect you or a family member may have a sleep disorder, talk to your physician, who may refer you to the sleep center for testing.
